Working towards Sunnyside Park

Los Osos has only one small community park serving the entire town. This leaves children with limited safe places to play, community groups struggling to find space for youth sports, and everyone with too few options for active recreation.

Turning Sunnyside into a park and community resource would significantly boost active recreational opportunities, promote health and well-being, and enhance community connections, serving the needs of Los Osos today and for generations to come.

The cost to acquire, operate, and maintain Sunnyside Park is $185 per year per parcel, or about $15 monthly. That amount is needed for fifteen years until the purchase cost is paid. Then the monthly cost reduces to about $8 for ongoing operation and maintenance.

Petitions Must be Signed in Person

The Sunnyside Park Citizens Coalition launched a petition drive on October 24 to get 1,029 signatures from voters in the LOCSD. This will place a measure on the June ballot to enact a Sunnyside parcel tax. A simple majority passes the measure and provides the funding needed for us to own Sunnyside Park.

Los Osos is beautiful but we have a problem-- children with limited safe places to play, families with few options for active recreation, and community groups struggling to find space for youth sports.
